KOSKINOU Rhodes Island
Koskinou offers the opportunity to experience the traditional village life, with great dash of history and a wide choice of activities just a short drive away.
Located only 6 km away from Rhodes Town, the village took its name from the former occupation of the inhabitants, who used to manufacture sieves ("koskina").
Today, Koskinou is one of the best family vacation spots in the island of Rhodes.
At the very first sight, the village is not particularly impressive - it is only when you will get into the labyrinth of narrow streets and you will find your path to the old part of Koskinou, that you will be charmed forever.
Your camera will love the beautiful doors of the village houses, painted in red, turquoise, blue and yellow, with carved designs, fine stone porches with arches and you will long for coolness of the lovely little cobbled-floors gardens. Continue your walk and prepare your camera again for the "Traditional House", decorated with handmade woven carpets and ceramic plates.
It is only here in Koskinou that you can taste the traditional "melekouni" sweet, traditionally made by the housewives for the big feasts of the village. Now you can buy "melekouni" with a big friendly smile bonus from Maria or Sofia, the owners at the local patisserie.
If interested in history, you have to know that Koskinou area is of a great archeological interest, with findings from the 4th century BC.
Pay a visit also to the medieval castle from the 13th century, as well as to the Christian Chapels of Marina, Eirini and Loukas (built in the 4th century).
For a relaxing day under the sun of Greece, you can chose the nearest beach of Reni, some 2.5Km from the Koskinou, or, a short taxi drive away, there is Rhodes city, with everything you might need to spend a perfect day.
There are many local artists, and foreigners as well, who fell in love with the unique charm of the colorful Koskinou and moved for good in this village, which definitely worth being on your Rhodes holidays map !
